Frequently asked questions

What is a zine?
Zine is short for fanzine. It’s a self-published original or fan-based magazine that may include works from only one person or multiple contributors. The most common content found in zines are illustrations, stories, cosplay, among others. Publication format varies and it can be digital, physical or a combination of both. Some zines may also include physical or digital merchandise as an additional bonus.
What is this zine about?
This is an upcoming free digital zine to celebrate the 25th anniversary of serialization for the manga Mushishi.
The zine contents will be SFW and ship-free. As this is a seasons zine, the central theme is depicting the characters or animanga setting in different seasons.
Who can join as a contributor?
At the moment, we're looking for artists, writers and digital merch artists. If there's interest from participants to submit alternative media form for the zine (recipes, cosplay, digital photography, fanmade amvs, etc), please be sure to let us know once the interest check opens!
Contributors will be asked to share a portfolio during the sign-up process. Please note that while Mushishi-centric content is not mandatory for your sign-up information, it is preferred. A tumblr, twitter or discord account is not required to participate, but we ask that all contributors have a valid email address for communication. Previous experience participating in zines is not required.
How many contributors are you planning on accepting?
This is an open entry zine which means we'll be accepting every applicant that fills out the form as long as they follow the guidelines properly.
Can I edit my sign-up form after I submit it?
Yes, you're allowed to edit your answer after you submit! To do so, please follow the link in the confirmation email you received after filling out the form for the first time. Send us a message so we can review your sign-up once again in case it has been reviewed already. We request that applicants refrain for sending duplicate responses.
Please note that applicants won't be able to edit their responses after the sign-up period has closed.
How do I know if I have been accepted?
We will send emails after the sign-up period with a link to our discord server and a contributor form. Please note that if you didn't follow the guidelines, you'll receive an email explaining that this is the reason you weren't accepted.
What is the rating of this zine?
All content in the zine will be SFW!
Are romantic ships allowed?
We want to put emphasis on celebrating the series and not on romance, so only platonic relationships will be allowed for this zine.
Can I apply as a writer and an artist?
Yes, but keep in mind that while you'll be considered for both positions, you may only be accepted for one position!
Are traditional artworks acceptable?
Yes, we will accept traditional works as long as you can provide a clean scan with a resolution of at least 300dpi for your final submission.
Are we allowed to post/preview our work?
Throughout the duration of the project, contributors must not share, post or publish the full piece they’re doing for the zine. We also request that contributors refrain from sharing drafts of the piece during the creation process. We will allot a period for previews right before the zine release, contributors will be notified about the specific dates at a further time.
No physical zine?
This project is planned as a digital art and fic zine. We currently don’t have the means to ensure physical zines for contributors and would prefer to not promise what we can’t deliver.
